Mike Hammond | VP of Land
Mike grew up in a small town on rural Long Island, which fostered an early love for the sea, and all things nautical. While in High School, Mike was an active member of the high school NJROTC program and an all-league wrestler. After graduating, He decided to serve his country in the branch that seemed a natural fit, the US Navy.
Mike served for five years in the Navy at various stations on the east coast, including 3 years aboard USS Shreveport. During this time, he was able to travel throughout the Mediterranean, visiting places like Italy, Greece, Israel, and Jordan. Onboard the Shreveport he served as a Machinist Mate and became a Work Center Supervisor, under a Division Officer from Oklahoma who planted the first seeds that eventually grew into a career in the energy industry. Mike was a Non-Commissioned Officer, achieving the rank of E-5/Petty Officer Second Class. During his Navy career, he earned the designation of Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and was awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and two Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.
After leaving the Navy Mike founded and managed Hammond’s Quality Flooring, a small independent floor covering business. During his time with Hammond’s Quality flooring, Mike enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, and it was here that a mentor introduced him to the OU Energy Management program and the profession and industry he grew to love, being a landman in the energy industry, Mike graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2008 earning a Bachelor of Business Administration, with Distinction, majoring in Energy Management. Upon graduation, he was named the Landman Scholarship Trusts Outstanding Graduate by the American Association of Professional Landmen, an award given annually to the nation’s top PLM graduate. Following graduation, Mike began his career working for Southwestern Energy Company in Houston as an in-house landman in an emerging play for them, the Marcellus Shale.
Prior to joining Bellatorum Resources, Mike worked in the land and corporate development functions at Southwestern Energy Company, EP Energy and Halcon Resources in roles of progressive responsibility. Throughout his oil and gas career, which has spanned more than a decade, he has worked in almost every major on-shore US Shale Basin focusing largely on being a part of or managing teams handing trades, business development, acquisitions, and divestitures. During this time, he and his teams have demonstrated a proven track record of deal-making success.
Mike is a Certified Professional Landman and has earned his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Rice University. He is also a Texas licensed Realtor.
Mike and his wife Kathi have two young boys, Mikey and Zeke and two dogs, Panda and Scrappy. In his free time he enjoys traveling with his family, SCUBA Diving, going to live sporting events and an occasional round of golf.
